The Friendly Fridge project was already underway when Ellery Neon was asked to be a part of it in early 2020. His job was to repaint the fridge to make it more inviting, but instead he gave the whole area a makeover, as well as a smirky but charming character on the fridge itself. Very quickly the fridge drew more visitors as well as a NYTimes article, influencing a global movement of no-barrier food access, with “Free Fridges” popping up in the UK, Thailand, Mexico and Japan and many more countries.
